  Canterbury Commons enjoys a variety of bird habitats.  The Lamprey River empties into Carroll Lake's marshy edges.  The river banks support both deciduous and conifer trees which provide ample nesting and roosting.  A Bald Eagle has been sighted as well as the following:  Hooded Merganser, Wood Duck, Mallard, King Fisher, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Worm eating Warbler, Wild Turkey, Yellow Warbler, Titmouse, Nuthatch, Great Blue Heron, Snapping and Painted Turtles, Flicker, Northern Harrier, Cardinal, Mourning Dove, Night Hawks, Cat Birds, Sandpipers, Red Winged Blackbird, Grebe, Ruby Throated Humming bird, Osprey, Merlin, Robins, River Otter, Beaver and Rough Legged Hawk.  A great Horned Owl has been heard in the distance.  The occasional kayakers or canoeists do not seem to disturb the birds while they enjoy the beauty of the river and its surroundings.
